11 things you didn't know about travelling...

1. Travelling is no vacation and most of the time not very relaxing. Don't ever again tell us we're on a year-long holiday..!
 
2. Your travel partner becomes your best friend, therapist, doctor, work mate, boss, etc - all in one person.

3. You sometimes love and hate that person at the same time :)

4. You miss things in life, that you guys wouldn't even think about twice - a Sunday morning in bed with a cup of tea and a good book, and preferably rain outside and no need to get up. Your place on the couch to come home to after a hard day. Your best friends & family and somebody to talk to other than your partner :) Work (not really, just joking). Going for a run. Cooking a meal. A clean hot shower.

5. You realise you can easily live without certain things - make up, hair dryer/straightener, more than two pairs of shoes, an extensive wardrobe (really, you don't need more than a few shirts and shorts),  special moisturising, vitaminised, whatsoever showergel or shampoo (just use what's available), most of the time soap does the job just fine.

6. You stop shopping as it means everything you buy has to be carried around in your backpack. How joyful it can be to throw away stuff, reducing the load on your back, pure bliss!

7. Most of the time you have no idea what day of the week it is which sometimes gets you very strange looks from other people.

8. You stop being fussy with food (we've never really been anyway, so that's lucky for us) and you stop trying to understand every single item on a menu. Just pointing at something and hoping for the best is a lot more exciting, believe us.

9. The budget you set at the beginning of your journey turns out to be a joke.

10. The more you travel, the more you realise how little you've seen. Our travel-to-do list is probably a lot longer now as it was a year ago.

11. You don't just learn lots about other countries and cultures but you also learn so much about yourself. You will never be the same person again.
